To do this, we will develop novel AI algorithms to enable autonomous monitoring (sensing) and management (forecasting and decision making) for horticultural crops. Horticulture is chosen as it provides a set of realistic yet challenging environments with crops grown both indoors (in glasshouses) and outdoor (in orchards); the indoor environment provides greater control over the growth of the crops. When considering sensing in the horticultural environment, one of the key questions is how well is the plant or crop growing. That is, what is the state of the plant (phenotpying) and how has it changed since last time it was seen (phenotpying over time).
